Amitek College
Independent school and college on Oxford Street in Southernwood, running the whole way from pre-primary and primary through high school to college programmes. Started in 2012 as a matric finishing school, which is still part of what it does: matric completion and symbol upgrades sit alongside IT and computer training. Registered with the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training, with college programmes accredited through the QCTO and SETA approvals including MICTSETA. There is a second campus in King William's Town.
Beacon Bay Tutoring Centre
Small-group and individual tutoring for Grades 4-12 in maths, science, English, and accounting. Exam preparation and homework support.
Blue Ribbon Culinary School
Culinary school based at the East London Museum. It runs themed dining events in partnership with the museum, such as its Shipwreck-Themed Pop-up Dinner.
Boston City Campus — East London
Support centre for Boston City Campus on St Georges Road in Southernwood, one of the college's network of campuses around the country. Degrees, diplomas, higher certificates and short learning programmes across IT and computing, bookkeeping and accounting, business management and HR, marketing, PR and media, and travel and tourism. The campus provides e-learning facilities, on-site training advisers, an e-library and an examination venue for students studying remotely.
Centre of Excellence High School
Independent high school at 4 St Marks Road in Southernwood, a small campus on a residential street a short way from Life St Dominic's. Reachable on the landline during office hours or on the cell number, 069 577 8819, outside them.

Selborne College
Public boys' high school on Dawson Road in Selborne, founded in 1872 and one of the oldest schools in the country. Takes both day boys and boarders, with hostel accommodation on site, and runs a full sport and cultural programme alongside academics. The suburb takes its name from the school rather than the other way round.
Swim Smartt
Swimming school at 38 Smartt Road in Nahoon, teaching from age three through to adults, so it takes parents as well as their children. Andrew runs the lessons and bookings are made by WhatsApp rather than through a website.
UNISA — East London
Regional service centre for the University of South Africa on St Lukes Road in Southernwood, and the hub for the Eastern Cape region alongside Mthatha and Gqeberha. Distance-learning students come here for applications and registration, assignment and examination administration, funding queries and graduations, plus counselling, tutorials and technology support. There is a regional library on site. Open 07:45 to 4pm on weekdays.
Vincent High School
Independent high school on St James Road in Belgravia taking Grades 8 to 12, motto 'Victory Through Knowledge'. Fully accredited and registered with the Eastern Cape Department of Education under EMIS number 200201084, and an examination centre in its own right - centre number 4132003 - so pupils write on site rather than travelling.
Walter Sisulu University – East London Campus
